PCHS is Moving - Friday, September 14, 2007
We regret that the relationship with the City of Bolivar has reached a point where our Board of Directors has decided to move from the Shelter that is now located on City Property.

We don't have anything definite about a new location, but we hope to have something soon.  Right now our first priority is finding homes for all of our animals.  If you can help, please contact us at helppchs@polkhumane.org.

We thank you for your support

From the Bolivar Herald Free Press....

The Polk County Humane Society is a volunteer organization primarily supported by donations and by adoption fees collected when an animal at the shelter finds a home. The organization also collects money from the city of Bolivar for housing animals picked up by the city animal control officer, and city officials have recently expressed concern about conditions at the society's animal shelter.

Welcome To Our Web Site!

We are a no-kill shelter located in Bolivar, Missouri. We take care of the stray and unwanted dogs and cats in Bolivar and the surrounding areas of Polk County. We are dedicated to improving the lives of abused and unwanted pets by providing temporary shelter until a new, loving home can be found. Working hard to give hope to the hopeless, we do not euthanize unwanted pets.

Check back often for updated pet lists!

Have you lost your dog or cat?

If you have lost your cat or dog, we may have it. Please contact us and give us a description of the animal, including age, sex, size, color, breed, unique identifiers such as scars or color patches, and the animal's name. Give us a telephone number(s) where you can be reached and the area the animal was lost. If your animal is brought to the shelter we will contact you. You are also welcome to come by the shelter and fill out a lost animal report.

It is estimated that one in three pets will get lost in its life so please get your pet an I.D. tag.

Looking for a barn cat?
PCHS has several feral cats that were trapped
and brought to the the shelter by Animal Control.
For these cats we try to find good barn homes where
they can live with the security of always having
food and shelter and will not have to live in a cage
anymore. If you have a barn and are willing to care
for one of these guys, please contact us.

Looking for a puppy?
If you are looking for a puppy please contact us.
Puppies do come in to the shelter, but are usually adopted fairly quickly and sometimes do not get posted to the website. We will be happy to add your name to a waiting list for a puppy. But while you are here, take a look at some of our older dogs. Some of these guys have been at the shelter a long time and would love the chance to show you some of the benefits of adopting an adult or senior dog. Benefits like:

  • Older animals are more likely housetrained.
  • Older animals are more likely past the chewing phase.
  • Their slower pace is perfect for less-active guardians
  • You CAN teach an old dog new tricks
